1. In general, what is your age, background, occupation?
I was born in San Diego, CA in 1951. My top priorities in life are to have a close walk with the Lord and to be the best wife, mother and Gramma as possible. I have been blessed with two amazing children, Jennifer Dougherty and Joshua Felice. (That includes their spouses Tim & Heather). I also have 4 awesome grandchildren, Clayton 19, Benjamin 17, Braydon 10, and Brianna 8.
I’ve also enjoyed teaching off and on for 43 years; preschool, seniors, and every age in between. Besides helping with Sunday school I am privileged to be teaching a Bible class at the ladies jail in Leesburg.
2. How did you get to know about Catoctin CrossFit and why did you start?
My daughter, Jennifer, dragged me in about 10 months ago. She and Tim are both members now.
I was so embarrassed because of my age. Coach Jason reminds me I’m not the oldest, just the most mature female member.
All the coaches made me feel so comfortable. Zach helped me do my own thing with dumbbells in the corner until I felt more comfortable. Coach Troy finally convinced me to try a barbell and now I love it!
3. What has CCF changed about your life other than a workout routine?
The little things come to mind, like being able to carry ALL of my grocery bags in at once, or lifting rocks out in my garden. Also, how many grammas can do a handstand and climb trees? (Eileen, a fellow CCF member and closet tree climber & I are still looking for a good tree we can climb and have lunch in.
4. What motivates you to keep coming back to CCF?
I come everyday Monday-Friday. I can count the times I’ve had to miss on one hand. I love the community at CCF; so friendly and encouraging. The coaches are so knowledgeable, and so patient. You really could not ask for a better gym environment.
5. What advice would you give someone thinking about trying a class at CCF?
No matter what age or fitness level you are at right now, the coaches will meet you there, and take you forward at your own pace. Also ladies, I’ve lost 20 lbs since I started. I weigh the same as I did in high school. My husband often whistles when I walk by. That feels pretty good!
6. What goals have you set for 2022?
Starting the Monday after Murph, Wendy and Debbie are going to help me with the 4 steps to do a pull up. I’m so excited. I hope to be doing a pull up by my 71st birthday in August. Come join us after the 9:00 class!
7. My favorite CrossFit movement
There’s been a lot, but recently doing a handstand was really exciting!
8. Favorite type of workout or movement
My favorites are back squats and deadlifts. I don’t really mind burpees either.
9. If you had to teach a class on one thing what would it be and why?
I get to teach from my favorite book, the Bible, every week.
10. If you could be on a reality TV show what would it be & why?
Hmmm…”Reality TV” I had to look that up. I don’t watch much TV.
After dinner we sometimes watch Gunsmoke, Honeymooners, Leave it to Beaver; stuff we watched in the 50s.
If there was a reality show on gardening, I would like to be in that. I’m glad Zach lets me decorate the entrance to the gym with flowers. Be watching for the soon to come summer display!
The people, coaches, programs, special activities, and great results are all reasons I am blessed by my Catoctin CrossFit family, it really is the best gym near me!
