1. Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? What do you do for a living?
I was born/raised in El Salvador and moved to NoVA right after high school. I went to George Washington University and have lived in the NoVA area for the most part, Fairfax and Loudoun counties. I work for the Federal government as a Senior Advisor for Data and Analytics for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. I live in Hamilton and love spending time with my wife Heather and kids, Emily and Ethan.
2. What brought you in to Catoctin CrossFit? What made you want to stay?
I was looking for a gym near me and found Catoctin CrossFit close by. I was mainly looking for a change in routine and more structured/consistent workout program. It was an instant feeling of support by a friendly community, combined with amazing/caring coaches and support staff that made me stay.
3. What are some of the changes you’ve experienced since starting at Catoctin CrossFit that were unexpected (new friends, goals, social events, etc.)?
Iāve experienced more self-discipline by sticking to a regular workout schedule. Iāve also had the opportunity to meet great people and have made new great friends that will definitely stick around for life.
4. What was your first day at Catoctin CrossFit like and what motivates you to keep coming back to Catoctin CrossFit.
Tough workout the first day but an awesome experience. The energy that everyone brings is so motivating, no matter how tough the workout was the day before. I love that I can put a pause on my day and focus on myself without interruption as soon as I walk in.
5. Tell us some of your recent accomplishments. What goals do you have for this year?
I was able to do some wall handstands without falling recently lol. A goal would be to be able to do a wall handstand pushup and a proper bar muscle-up, the kipping move is not my friend.
6. What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about trying a class at Catoctin CrossFit?
Just do it and you wonāt regret it! I initially thought I would be coming in 2-3 times per week, but it turned into an everyday thing, even without prior CrossFit experience. Youāll make new friends, learn something new, and improve on your form every day.
7. What is something that CrossFit has taught you about yourself and how has it made your life better?
CrossFit has taught me awareness and control by being 100% present during a tough workout. That regardless of what physical or mental stage youāre in, small changes lead to big impacts.
8. Do you have a favorite workout? What movements does your favorite workout include?
Trail and distance running. I love nature, the outdoors, and the benefits of running to my mental health. I do enjoy any kind of squats the most and feel that I have more leg control and lower body strength by being a runner.
